Information Regarding Attending a Victim Impact Panel In Washington State
WA VICTIM IMPACT PANEL INFORMATION
Many people who are charged with an alcohol-related driving offense here in Washington State are required to attend a Victim Impact Panel. This is true even if a person is charged with drunk driving and the charge is later amended to lesser charge. Depending on the specific facts and circumstances of your case, we often encourage our DUI clients to attend a Victim Impact Panel prior to the final resolution of their matter.
Victim Impact Panels are held throughout Washington State. Twenty-seven counties operate Drunk Driving Victim Panels throughout Washington. For the most part, panel speakers are individuals whose lives have been tragically affected by a drunken driving accident.
King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties have all posted web pages with specific information about Victim Impact Panels in their respective counties. These web pages also contain links with detailed information about when and where Victim Impact Panels are held throughout King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. For your convenience, each county link is provided below.
In general, all Victim Impact Panels are two to three hours in length and
are probably best described as informational or awareness programs. It is important to arrive at least 15 minutes before your panel is scheduled to start. Typically, each Victim Impact Panel consists of three to four speakers who will discuss their
personal experiences with drunk drivers. While tragic, it is hoped that their experiences will bring the realities of drinking and driving home to its participants.
